  • Montana World of WearableArt Awards Show  is a two-hour montage of theatre, dance, colour, movement and art, held annually in September in Wellington to an audience of 30,000 per season.
     
  • The Springston Trophy  - Billed as the largest pony club teams event in the Southern Hemisphere, this year's Trophy will be held in Christchurch with the program including cross country, dressage and show jumping.
     
  • Dunedin Fringe Festival - Engage in an action-packed festival of experimental and contemporary art that takes over Dunedin for 17 spell-binding days. This is an open-access festival so anyone can register to be in the program. Artist grants for the development of new artistic works and travel assistance are available on registration. The Dunedin Fringe Festival has extended its dates this year, adding an extra seven days to the usual 10-day program.
     
  • Waikato Home and Garden Show - This annual extravaganza attracts more than 40,000 visitors a year travelling from all over the country to see the latest products and exciting displays from companies both here and overseas.
     
  • Kaikoura Seafest 2006  - Kaikoura's premier festival featuring wine and food from the region, Seafest is an annual celebration of the abundance of the ocean and all it represents for the Kaikoura region.
     
  • South Island Masters Games - A genuine festival of sport, the Games features a record 50 sports spread over 10 action packed days in Timaru. Completely competitive or seriously social, there is something for everyone. And anyone can enter. There are no rules or qualification criteria except, of course, being old enough.
     
  • School Term 4 begins 

  • Opotiki's Motu Challenge - Considered one of the country's premier multisport races, with more than NZ$50,000 worth of prizes up for grabs in the 2006 event, the Motu Challenge is the second largest race of its kind in New Zealand, with a total of about 740 entrants competing in last year's event. The Challenge has four stages: a 65km mountain bike; a 17km run; a 52km road cycle; and a final multisport stage comprising a 27km kayak, 8km road cycle and 3km run to the finish.
     
  • Bauer Hamilton to Auckland Express - The course for this sporting event is fast, fun and very scenic - a total of 97km and open to everyone with a bike! Starting on Sir Tristram Ave at Te Rapa Race Course in Hamilton and finishing in Pukekohe, the ride is expected to host 2000-3000 cyclists in 2006.
     
  • Hawke's Bay Show at the Society's showgrounds encompasses Hawkes Bay Anniversary day. The show will feature a myriad of trade sites, the Mahon Amusements side shows, top class New Zealand showjumping and livestock competitions for sheep, alpacas and cattle, and free entertainment.
     
  • Wairoa Maori Film Festival The annual Wairoa Maori Film Festival will showcase the best in Maori and Indigenous film talent. Tickets will be available late September from the Wairoa Information Centre, Cnr SH2 and Queen St, Wairoa.
     
  • 27 October 2008 (Monday) - Labour Day Pubic Holiday (The fourth Monday in October )

  •  Dunedin Rhododendron Festival - A highlight of the Dunedin spring event calendar, this annual festival is celebrating its 23rd year of existence.
     
  • Taranaki Rhododendron Festival  - An established event with a very successful 18-year history, all the gardens have been independently assessed by the New Zealand Garden Trust for their design, plant selection, and maintenance. The Festival showcases the diverse range of gardens throughout Taranaki from coastal and sub-tropical to alpine.
