  • June to August - Winter@Waipu  is a three-month festival celebrating winter in the small settlement of Waipu, with a host of entertainment and events lined up.
     
  • June/ July - Queenstown Winter Festival - over 60 events lined up over 10 days including all the old favourites, some special festival twists and some new events.
     
  • Saturday 17 June to Saturday 15 July - The NZI Winter Season of Mozart's The Magic Flute performed by an international and New Zealand cast, combines magic and mystery with quirky humour. The romantic fairytale is popular with long-time opera-goers for its tunefulness and wit, and is a great 'first opera' for beginners. Devised by British theatre great Sir Peter Hall and with a creative team including American director Stanley M. Garner and British political cartoonist Gerald Scarfe, this production will visit both Wellington and Auckland with the Chapman Tripp Opera Chorus accompanied by the Vector Wellington Orchestra (Wellington) and the Auckland Philharmonia (Auckland).

  • Friday 7 to Sunday 9 July - Opotiki's Fibre and Fleece Design Awards, Exhibition & Fashion 2006  encourages crafts people, designers and artists to create garments, furnishings and various art forms using a range of mediums, with fashion parades, workshops, a trade fair, exhibition and craft market part of the bi-annual event.
     
  • Friday 7 to Sunday 23 July - Nelson School of Music Winter Festival, a two-week musical extravaganza featuring performers from New Zealand and overseas, it is a winter musical performance highlight for the Top of the South.
     
  • Friday 21 to Sunday 23 July - Bluewater Hotel Deco Decanted is a weekend full of events to celebrate the art deco style in Napier. Includes fashion, guided walks, dances, fabulous food, entertainment, vintage cars, movies and even something for the kids.
     
  • Saturday 22 July - The North Face Peak to Peak attracts multi-sporters from across the South Island drawn to the challenge of racing from the Remarkables ski area, down through Queenstown and up to Coronet Peak ski area, travelling by skis or snowboard, mountain bike, kayak and foot. Individuals and teams of two to five people can enter.
     
  • Friday 28 & Saturday 29 July - The Hokonui Fashion Design Awards are firmly established as a key event on the national fashion calendar and continue to attract entries and interest from throughout New Zealand. The awards are a competitive platform for all amateur designers.
     
  • Monday 17 July - School Term 3 begins Monday 17 July To Friday 22 September (100 half-days)
